Phrasemaking

Mon Oct 04, 2004 at 10:06:27 AM PDT

Phrasemaking is one weapon we have.  We need ones for Get Out The Vote as well as for The Undecided.

Which phrase shall we saddle him with?

  • If he were a CEO, he'd have been fired by now.

  • If he were a coach, he'd have been fired by now.

  • Pious Phrases may conceal Incompetence.

  • Claiming "hard work" won't get Bush a passing grade.

  • Patriots Need to Dump Bush

  • If you believe Bush, then I've got a bridge that I'd like to sell you.

"If you believe Bush, then I've got a quagmire that I'd like to sell you.

What did the President know and when did he stop knowing it?

  •  NOT the Patriots phrase (none / 1)

However it's meant, people will interpret it as another awkward sports cliche and in every state but one, the Pats are not beloved.

For the same reason, no teh coach one either.

Not a catchphrase, but - "This President likes to think of himself as America's CEO, but he forgets that he is an employee of the American people.  As his employer, when an employee lies to you repeatedly, gives sweetheart deals to his friends, and misspends your money, then complains about all his "hard work" he had to do to deceive you, what do you do?  You fire him! And that's what we're going to do on election day."

    •  How's this version? (none / 0)

The President would like to think of himself as our CEO.  In reality, he is our employee.  And he's an employee who's consistently failed at his job for the past four years.

I intend to terminate George W. Bush's employment, effective November 2nd.

Your version is more concise but not as Kerry-esque.

Not that I'm bitter it was so easy to edit my version down to something pithier...

  •  bridge to sell (none / 0)

I was turning over a theme in my head a little while ago that Bush's presidency has been like the Papa in the "Mockingbird" lullaby.... if one thing fails to please, he'll buy another thing.  But with Bush he's not buying, he's selling... he sells WMD, there aren't any, so he sells links to Al Quaida, there aren't any, so he sells liberation of the Iraqi people, they apparently want liberation from us, so he sells us "fighting the terrorists in Iraq so we don't have to fight them here".  Every policy he has fits the schema because everything he's done is a failure.

The only thing stopping me from posting it was I couldn't make it rhyme and put words in the song, but I thought it would be cool to end it with a line about selling you the Brooklyn Bridge if you fell for it again.  "And if you fall for it again, I'll sell you the Brooklyn Bridge my friend."

Anybody care to take a crack at songwriting?

Hush little baby don't say a word,
Bush is gonna sell you a terror alert...

See, I'm no good at this.
